Bio

Hi, I am Jeremy Brooks, and I am running for a position on the Burlington School Committee for the election year 2023. I became a resident of Burlington during early childhood and attended the Burlington school system grades K-12, graduating in 1997.

I retired from the United States Air Force in April of 2021 and still answer the call to serve, this time at the community level. When I surveyed the options available for continued service in my community, the School Committee was the right option to focus my attention on, as I have two young children currently in the school system. I want a more prominent voice in shaping policies that will affect my children’s education and all students in our school system.

I am a proven leader with over 25 years of leadership and management experience in small and large organizations. I have numerous accolades for innovative leadership and a history of producing results on time and within budget. I have project management experience, successfully directing all aspects of the projects under my supervision from inception to closeout. Additionally, I have managed a multi-million dollar portfolio for acquisition programs.

In closing, I would greatly appreciate your support and vote to become a member of the Burlington School Committee.

Experience

I am currently a Senior Product Manager of wearable power and data systems in charge of developing and improving products within my portfolio to meet customer needs. Since starting my current role, I have grown the offering by ten products and helped drive international business opportunities. This demonstrates my ability to hear customer demand and translate that into products users want. This role and previous roles have prepared me to serve on the school committee in a fiscally and resource-constrained environment to complete projects on time and within budget. As a school committee member, this experience will allow me to listen to constituents' needs to inform decisions and right-size policy for votes.

As a 23.5-year Air Force Special Warfare member, I filled roles as a team leader to organizational level leader, managing between five and two-hundred nineteen personnel. During that time, I successfully managed the construction of new buildings and oversaw facility improvements. I was also part of the team responsible for budgeting for these improvements and ensuring that funds were available for daily operations.

During that tenure, I was a party to multiple source selection committees as a team member and leader with contract values between $59.5M-$1.3B. This experience has taught me the rigor and detail required to select the most qualified candidate to complete the tasks proposed. Furthermore, my experience as a project manager constructing proposals and gathering requirements. Uniquely positions me with the skills required to plan, oversee and complete the major rebuilding and renovation projects ahead. I am, again, prepared to meet the challenges facing the Fox Hill rebuilding project and the Burlington High School project that will be up for bid upon completion of the feasibility study.

Lastly, I would like to highlight that I am a pragmatic listener that will consider all proposals put before the committee and debate issues to provide the best facilities and experiences for the students of the Burlington school system with an eye on innovation to make the Burlington school system a leader in education.
